Council to provide financial security for Mersey ferry

The Devonport City Council will consider making an operational payment of $25,000 a year to keep the historic trans-Mersey ferry, Spirit of Devonport, afloat for the next three years. The council’s community services committee recommended the council enter into a three-year partnership agreement with ferry owner Merseylink, to provide $25,000 per annum to operate the loss-making service.
